Collar Danger

They say confession is good for the soul, so it’s about time I confessed about Collar Danger. For years we’ve outfitted our pups with cool looking collars. Some were leather, some chain, and some space age material.

Add to that, we’ve always taken our kids and pups with us on vacation, so the norm for us has always been various kinds of collars and leashes that were a direct connect to the collar. It just seemed like the natural thing to do.

This 2 minute video shows you why good harnesses are beneficial to pups.

Now isn’t seeing believing? It made me a believer.

When we did a serious review of collars/leashes the light turned on and we became acutely aware of Collar Danger.
The biggest danger to using the collar/leash combination is damage to pup’s throat and neck because of the pressure exerted. That’s compounded if the collar for whatever reason is too tight.

To be fair I reviewed several types of pup harnesses. Some appeared to be restrictive and others seemed they would be too uncomfortable for pups.

Here are the advantages of the harness:

  • It does not hurt the pup
  • It does not restrict the pup
  • It is adjustable to the pup’s body
  • It comes in many sizes
  • It comes in many colors

Well, there you have it. I know, confession is tough, but I have to confess ….. I have been guilty of creating Collar Danger to our pups, but those days are over since I found this comfortable harness from PetCo.
